Pregnancy,
although of importance to a woman, does somehow hurt her
body, as abdominal muscles and skin are somehow distended.
Adipose tissue forms a large part of our bodies, and although
nature as a rule deposits it evenly to give contour to the
body and subserve a number of important physiologic functions
and purposes, the abdominal wall is capable of storing quantities
of fat basically in the abdominal area and after giving
birth it is not corrected by dieting or gymnastics and in
the majority of the cases, not even with liposuction.
In such circumstance the abdomen wall surgery is recommended
to correct the damage left by pregnancy. The surgery consists
on the removal of the excess skin and fat from the area
below the umbilicus and correction of diastasis of the rectimuscles
or an umbilical or ventral hernia. The lateral extension
of this part is proportional to the excess of skin, the
scar, therefore, depends upon the variety of abdominal deformity
and is located horizontally just above the pubis region,
running laterally through in accordance with the volume
of the abdomen and is hidden by the bikini becoming almost
imperceptible as time goes by. The definite result of the
surgery is obtained from the twelfth to the eighteenth month
after operation, as the abdomen may be moderately swollen
in the first months such lessening with time. It is advisable
to drain each quadrant for two or three days. The patient
should wear an abdominal support for several weeks.
The surgery is performed under general or epidural anesthesia,
depending on the anesthetist’s evaluation and in some
cases it is used local anesthesia with sedation.
Abdomen wall plastic surgery is one of the esthetic surgeries
bringing most gratifying results, as it removes all loosen
skin and fat, consequently reducing the weight and bringing
back the body shape the patient used to have before pregnancy,
therefore offering confidence for light and tight outfits
and beach wear.
Men can also undergo this kind of surgery, recommended to
those that have lost pounds of weight or that have gained
abdominal flaccidity as time went by.
