The
nose is the most prominent facial feature and plays an important
balance in the esthetic of the face; when inadequate in
form or size it may be the cause of emotional disturbs as
on the face, it occupies an outstanding position. It is
one of the most frequently performed operations
in plastic surgery, which modifies the shape by a corrective
operation for the improvement of form and function.
A non-proportional nose risks the harmony of the body being
the plastic surgery most adequate in such circumstance because
the patient, together with the surgeon can determine the
corrections to be made to turn the nose into a model fit
to the specific physical biotype and the face. The surgery
leaves no apparent scars. Incisions are located inside the
nose and it is made a remodeling of the cartilages excision
of the nasal dorsal humps, forcing the skin to adapt onto
this new structure avoiding thus external surgery signs.
The result can be seen in post-op phases: in the subsidence
of the postoperative swelling occurs in about seven days
and the total regression can be noted around the 18th month,
when the total accommodation of the skin takes place. Eventual
respiratory disturbs may be corrected by the nasal septum
deviation which is often performed in the course of a corrective
nasal plastic operation. It is required if the septum is
obstructive and it is imperative if there is a distortion
of the dorsum of the nose. The final rinoplasty result is
forever. Such surgery leads to facial youth projecting the
beauty of the face. A beautiful and harmonious nose is vital
to the esthetic balance of the face and provides great satisfaction.
Local anesthesia is commonly employed and adequate sedation
improves minimal bleeding during the operation. In children
and in an occasional patient who reacts unfavorably to local
anesthesia, general anesthesia is preferred.
