Ageing is a natural process, which involves physical, biochemical,
psychological, cultural and genetic factors. The balance
amongst these factors allows the individual to harmonize
his/her ego with his/her own image - however, in truth -
ageing is frequently endured with anxiety.
With age the facial structures suffer a series of alterations
that can be corrected. This is one of the most requested
surgeries by patients coming to a plastic surgery consulting
room. We are talking about procedures that allow for natural
results previously discussed between the surgeon and the
patient. It is possible to turn a tired looking face into
a more expressive one, recuperating the youthful outline
leaving minimum non-apparent scars.
Scars are placed on the scalp (in the hairline incision)
where they are hidden by the hair and in the outline of
the ears. The choice of the surgical procedure depends on
the age of the patient. The trend in modern face lifting
surgery has been towards a more aggressive approach with
a deeper level of dissection. We believe that ultimate procedures
give a long-lasting result with a high degree of patient
satisfaction. Work can be done in the palpebras (eyelids)
area, on the face itself and on the neck. The excess skin
is removed and the facial structure that marks the ageing
process (wrinkles, sulcus around the lips and cheeks) is
softened. We use a dosed suction drain and dressings. Anesthesia
can be general or local, depending on the patient and the
anesthetic’s previous evaluation. The patient generally
stays in for less than 24 hours.
The result is obtained after the swell (regular in any surgical
procedure) diminishes - generally within a week through
up to 4 months. Such plastic surgery brings significant
satisfaction to the patient as the face shows a youthful
aspect providing confidence for a happier life.
